CPAG PROJECT

Kites

In 2016, Mirtes Zwierzynski created Kites on an exterior wall of Daniel Webster Elementary school with the assistance of around 195 students, grades 3-8. The mural is located near a school garden and measures approximately 150 sq ft. The three ‘kites’ float on the wall of the school, representing aspirations and dreams. The body of the kites are created as quilts with full tiles, whereas the tails are made of broken tiles and depict school activities. Students created drawings in workshops with Zwierzynski as part of the design process and learned how to cut and lay tile in the production of the mural.

Nina Smoot-Cain assisted Mirtes on the project, and Brian McGlade installed the mural.
