“Story of Polyvocality” – Artist Talk
Sunday, June 25, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Please join us Sunday, June 25th from 3-4pm for a moderated talk featuring artists Justin Cooper and Haerim Lee, in conversation with curator Sandy Guttman. Register for the event here.
This event is in conjunction with the “Story of Polyvocality” exhibition closing reception at Chicago Public Art Group. “Story of Polyvocality” investigates the excavation of site-specific memories surrounding the anti-racist mural “All of Mankind” (1972), painted by renowned muralist Bill Walker.
The discussion will explore insights into the Strangers Home Missionary Baptist Church in Cabrini Green, reveal the whitewashed history of mural-making, and excavate personal narratives from the artists’ collective experiences. During the talk, Cooper and Lee will share their personal experiences related to the mural and the neighborhood, and how their encounters with the mural have informed their artistic practices in creating inclusive spaces.
As an aspect of the exhibition, the artist talk will be documented by a videographer.
Chicago Public Art Group is wheelchair accessible. All artworks include image descriptions, available through QR code. Masks are optional but encouraged. Seating will be provided.
